Scotsman Alexander Simpson began the production of shaving badgers and men's grooming accessories in 1919 and is widely regarded as a pioneer in the industry. The manufacture was originally based in East London, but later in Clapham. In 1941, after the loss of its factory during the German Luftwaffe blitz during World War II, production moved to the West Country, to the famous Nimmer Mill.
Today, Simpson shaving brushes and related products are manufactured by Progress Shaving Brush (Vulfix) Limited on the historic Isle of Man. They continue to be produced in the traditional way using handmade bows by skilled workers.
